Our First 200 Watts DIY Solar Panel

Just finished setting up our 200 watts solar panel. Woohoo!

Materials:
36 pcs 5x5in solar cells
tabbing wire
bus wire
47 x 24 inches aluminum frame
46.5 x 23.5 inches glass (front cover of the solar cells)
47 x 24 inches acrylic (back cover of the solar cells)
12 pcs stainless steel bolts and nuts
rubber washers for the bots and nuts
double sided tape
silicone sealant

Soldering the cells were very easy. After we have finished on them, we went to different glass/aluminum supply shops to canvass for the aluminum frame, glass and acrylic. Unfortunately, there were no shop here in our my place that sells acryclic, we found one a town away from where we live.

So we ordered those three, aluminium frame, glass and acrylic and waited for the worker to finish cutting the glass and acrylic and we even asked him to drill holes in the… Continue reading

Solar Powered Fish Pond Fountain – Indang Cavite

We’ve installed a 5 watt solar panel for a pond fountain in Indang Cavite.

If you have landscaping, pond with fountains and lights, fountains, or outside decorations that needs electric power and runs for 24 hours a day or even less than that, Solar Power would be a great help for you as it will give you huge savings in your electricity bill.

We placed the solar panel first near the pond so we can take photos and video, for demo purposes.  The type of  pump used for the fountain is an 8 watts submersible pump.

Solar panels are very low maintenance, just have it installed anywhere you want as long as its direct to sunlight, connect wirings and that’s all about it.

This solar powered fountain, installed in Indang, Cavite uses also an inverter (to convert DC power into AC power – 220v).

Solar Powered Water Pump for Fish Tank – Outdoor

Solar power has been really helpful for us.

We’ve used it in many ways already. Last year we have an aquaponics set-up using Tilapia and vegetables for the system, a small scale outdoor fish farming. 24 hours a day, the pump should be running for the aquaponics. Well, if you think of the electricity we have consumed the past year and the cost of it, we can say it wasn’t cheap. We had two big tanks (a big drum and another square tank for the aquaponics, both using pumps).

This year, no more paying for electricity use on our fish tank water pumps, we’re getting free electricity with Solar Power.

Here’s a simple demo on how we’ve used a 5 watts solar panel for our water pump.

How to Get Free Electricity From the Sun – Solar Panel Demo

For years many have been using solar energy as a means of producing electricity. How do they do that? With the help of technology.

Sun’s light and heat are stored and that stored solar energy is used to produce power, i.e. electricity.

In many countries, solar power is already in use, lights, pumps, homes’ electricity are being powered by the Sun. Not only do they help the environment as with the use of solar power there is no need for oil, or fossil fuels that in the long run will be gone. Sun’s light and heat are everywhere, it’s free. Unless the sun explodes we can and will always have power in our homes if we use Solar Energy.

In order for us to get free electricity from the sun, we need a few things:

– the most important is the Solar Panel
– Battery (this is where we will… Continue reading

Solar Panel – 5 watts

solar panel, solar panel Philippines, solar power, solar power Philippines, solar energy, solar energy Philippines, free electricityHere’s what our 5 watts solar panel looks like.

Mono Crystalline Solar Panel
DC 12V
0.29A
Weather Proof

When we started installing solar panel in our home, we started with a smaller wattage solar panel. With electricity bill rising up here, using solar energy was a much needed option for us to save on money, by using free electricity.

With this 5 watts solar panel size, using a solar controller/charger and an inverter, we were able to use 1 LED bulb 220V, 3 watts, which was good enough to be used in our dining room.

And then after some time we added another 1.5 watts LED bulb, 220V in one of the bedrooms.

This is how an LED bulb looks like.  There’s a 12V and a 220V, we used the 220V and just removed our old bulbs and replaced it with this one.

How To Use Solar Power to Get Free Electricity

solar panel, solar power, philippinesWe’ve used the sun’s heat and light in many ways to help us in our daily living. One common way is using sun in drying clothes ^_^, that’s the power of the sun, others use the sun’s heat and light to change the color of their skin, so called tanning. And if you add a glass or magnifying glass, you can make a fire with the help of the sun.

There are different ways we can get free energy from the Sun and in these times, with high technologies just within our reach,  we can now get free electricity from the Sun. By means of Solar cells (called “photovoltaic”, “PV” or “photoelectric” cells) or widely known as solar panels if they are bigger, this converts light directly in electricity.

If you are using a calculator, you see that small rectangle at the top of your calculator, that’s a solar… Continue reading

What is Solar Energy – Solar Power?

solar panel, solar panel Philippines, solar power, solar power Philippines, solar energy, solar energy Philippines, free electricityThese days many people are looking for ways to save on electricity consumption and save money. Many ways have been invented to get free energy or free electricity for commercial use. One of them is using the power of the “sun”.

Our sun doesn’t only give us light and heat. When used with technology it can also give us free power or free electricity. This is where solar energy gets in.

Solar energy in laymen term simply means, energy from the light and heat of the sun. I know, there are more complicated meaning of this, and computations, and in-depth explanations, but hey let’s leave it to the geniuses… lol.

Wikipedia defines solar energy as “radiant light and heat from the sun. Solar energy has been harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-evolving technologies. Solar energy technologies include solar heating, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity and… Continue reading
